Health Access Program
The Alta Bates Summit Health Access program is a community referral source for health related information. We provide monthly free or low cost presentations and screenings as well as information and referrals to other programs throughout the East Bay Area.
Membership is free and available to anyone by application. For more information or to request an application, please call (510) 869-6737.
Many local merchants offer discounts to Health Access members. Members also receive a discount in the Medical Center's cafeterias and the Alta Bates, Summit and Herrick gift shops.
Peralta Pharmacy offers free medication delivery for Health Access members as well as a medication information line; members can call and have questions about their medications answered by a pharmacist.
Health Access members also receive free installation of the Lifeline Emergency Response Service equipment.
Membership in the Alta Bates Summit Independent Gym is only $50 for three months for Health Access members. The gym is located at 5700 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland and is open Monday through Friday. Lockers and showers are available. Call (510) 204-1788 for more information.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings
Thursdays, October 22, November 19 and December 17
This weekly lecture series is co-hosted by Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Whole Foods Market. There are presentations every Tuesday evening, and a tour of Whole Foods Market every fourth Tuesday. Topics include Heart Health, Glorious Grains, Managing Work Stress, and others.
Alta Bates Summit Pharmacist Jenny Laskarzewski will give tips on how to manage your prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies so that you don't become a tragic statistic!
If you have been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis, come to this presentation covering the causes, symptoms and new minimally invasive treatment options. Orthopedic Surgeon Rakesh Donthineni, MD will give this informative talk and answer your questions.
Learn about the signs and symptoms of peripheral artery disease, which include pain or weakness when walking and sores on the toes that won't heal. Learn about the range of treatment options available from Interventional Cardiologist Erick Johnson, MD and Vascular Surgeon Keshav Pandurangi, MD.
If you are caring for a loved one, please join us for a day of support, education and resources. We will enjoy lunch, a panel of motivating speakers and caregivers, and receive a complementary chair massage and resource information.
"Diabetes Basics" introduces you to Type 2 diabetes and diabetes management, including control and prevention of complications. Free glucose meters will be available, along with meter training.
Explore ancient and current uses of music as a healing instrument with Mary Jo Hudgel, MPH. Participants will learn about music's therapeutic uses and experience it's physical and emotional power.
Urologist Andrew Pienkny, MD, will cover treatment options for overactive bladder and kidney stones.
Members receive membership in an independent gym program at a discounted rate of $50 for a three-month membership.

Peralta Pharmacy
Call the Peralta Pharmacy with questions about the proper use of your medication, medication side effects or drug interactions. Since our pharmacists would like to give your question their full attention, they created a system that allows you to call in the evening and leave a message, and a pharmacist will return your call on the next business day.
Lifeline is a 24-hour, in home emergency response service that is connected through your telephone to a Lifeline operator who can provide you with emergency assistance. The service is designed for people who live alone, want to maintain a link to medical assistance, are new mothers, are disabled or want peace of mind in knowing that someone will check on them regularly.
The Alta Bates Summit Health Access staff acts as your personal advocate in helping you locate and obtain health care services.
